Piercing After Care
Now that you've got a cool new piercing, it's time to take care of it!
After washing your hands, gently rinse the area of and around your new piercing clean with a mild soap and lukewarm water. You can gently pat try using a paper towel, or clean wash cloth. Do not use anything that will disintegrate easily with moisture such as tissue paper. Alternatively you can also air dry the area. Once the area is clean , you can rinse the piercing directly with a saline solution, or you can spray it onto a cotton swab and soak the area. To get the saline solution through the piercing you can slowly move the jewelry back and fourth to allow the liquid to move through the area. Please keep in mind that not all jewelry will move easily immediately after because of swelling. Do not force your jewelry to move if you experience pain while doing so.
-
Most Piercings can shrink or close very quickly if the jewelry is completely removed, so to prevent accidentally loosening of the jewelry, we do not recommend twisting motions when moving your jewelry during cleaning.
-
Swelling is expected but can be helped by using a cold compress on the area.
-
Mild irritation, swelling, discomfort are expected right after, but if you experience pain please contact your Piercing for advice.
For Ear Piercings: Sleeping on the side of your new piercing is not recommend. Neither are full coverage headphones or anything that can add pressure to the site. Wearing long hair up can also help prevent accidentally snagging on hair to prevent further irritation.
For Navel Piercings: Tight waistbands and/or waist trainers are not recommended for the first two weeks.
For Nipples Piercings: Padding is recommend to prevent snagging on fabric. Use caution when removing/changing clothing for the first few weeks as pulling may cause irritation.
For Facial Piercings: Makeup should be avoided directly at the side to prevent irritation. Use caution when cleaning face and drying with wash clothes or towels to prevent pulling of jewelry.
For Mouth Piercings: Do not pull or bite on jewelry with your teeth to prevent irritation and not hurt your teeth. Avoid makeup on piercings around the outside of lips and eating highly acidic foods for the first 48hrs after tongue piercings. Rinsing your mouth with alcohol free mouth wash is recommended between 2 to 4 times a day for as long as needed.
